The Stylists / Amelian Kashiro
Amelian Kashiro describes her style: Evolving, always moving and changing. I keep what I love and works on me, is my style mantra forever. I wear what I like regardless if it’s in or not, especially my vintage pieces. I like granny clothes, 80′s power woman, ethnic prints and right now I am really into Thai hats, bags and hairclips.
I stopped Amelian for a photo back in March 08 and I was thrilled to meet her again for my Stylist shoot!
Favorite article of clothing that you own ?
My vintage Leonard of Paris dresses, they are my prized pieces! Also I have a blazer I got in Sun City Arizona for $1 on a sidewalk, a aqua color with with a black velvet lapel that is in second place. And my Bleulab jeans that I wear every day – it’s hard to find a amazing pair of denim that is reversible on top of that!
Who’s closet would you raid?
Barbara Streisand – her vintage collection has to be insane, Shala Monroque of Pop Magazine her style is a breath of fresh air and if I could go way back in time it would be Donyale Luna, she’s my favorite model of all time. She had this effortless air about her and mystique.
If you could style anyone, who would it be and what would you dress her/him in?
It would be Raven Simone. She has a amazing figure and I would love to put her in funky figure flattering options that would accentuate her curves. She seems like she likes to take risks which would be the perfect client for me! I could see her in great color blocking, out there funky shoes and tailored jackets. I would want to revamp her whole look including her hair.
Favorite places to shop in LA ?
Salvation Army thrift stores, garage sales, Rose Bowl swap meet, Zainab on Melrose, H&M, Barneys and Phukaw in Santa Monica – My new obsession!!!
Who is your favorite designer?
Jeremy Scott, He is a genius! I remember the first time I saw his clothing like 5 years ago – I was blown away! His pieces are so vivid and speak volumes. What I love most about his dresses, my favorite is one that looks like the front of a Rolls Royce, is the way they make me feel! Confident, sexy and in my own skin.

Who or what has been your greatest fashion influence?
Gwen Stefani when she was in No Doubt! I remember seeing her in these little boy’s wife beaters and ska creepers which completely infatuated me. I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and fashion was considered the newest North Face jacket and Dr.Marten boots. I ran out and bought a 3 pack and wore plaid pants with them, I didn’t care that it was below 10 degrees outside! I love how against the grid she is still to this day, Andrea Lieberman and Gwen made some serious magic together.
I am inspired by my mom and dad who used to rock some of the most rad clothes back in their day. I look back at my mom’s photo’s from when she was younger in Japan with her chic blouses and fur coats. My dad who would frequent Zaire (before it was the Republic of Congo) would bring home these beautiful daishiki’s and fabrics that my mom who is a seamstress would make into hammer pants for me and my sisters! We would rock those to school and kids would be like “what is this?!” LOL! Japanese street style is a huge influence for me too, I love the carelessness but calculated ways they pull out looks. It blows my mind.
3 favorite blogs?
Decida Style – It’s really the only blog I frequent on a daily basis, Decida has a great outlook on trends and fashion. Very true to herself!
Stylebubble – She is more than just a blogger that posts photos but she is really knowledgable and articulate about fashion. I love her perspective and tastes.
Jak and Jil – I don’t think I need to say why I love this one!
