It’s my birthday today and my dad made me one of my favorite dishes. Smörgåstårta (sandwich cake) it’s a popular party dish here in Sweden.
It consists of several layers of bread with different fillings in between. The top is beautifully decorated, often with salmon, shrimp or sausage and ham.

It’s Fat Tuesday (Fettisdagen), also known as the official semla day!

Semla is a wheat bun spiced with cardamom, scooped out and filled with almond paste and topped with whipped cream and a dusting of powdered sugar.

I was so happy to find them here in LA at Food Perfected.

Checking out some birthday cakes this week and stopped by Susina Bakery and Cafe.  I tried the  Berry Blossom cake, three layers of vanilla sponge cake filled with white chocolate mousse and fresh berries. Decorated with crumbled meringue  and white chocolate shavings. Do I have to say more??
